An ideal revenge started in late 2001. the band started with with the original members ayan the lead guitarist and me (jamil) on vocals. Although we didn't identify right away what kind of music we were going to make, it was just something we had created for fun. With a $150 acoustic and a untrained voice of mine, we wrote our first song called "cloudy sky" of course now that we look back it sucks compared to our later and more recent stuff.
The band started with nothing but a piece of paper, a black inked pen, an acoustic, and two minds sharing a single hobby. AIR really wasn't any of our priorities, since it was only starting out and we had only done it for fun, we had more important matters at hand which we still do like work and school. Ayan played his first show on a talent show at his high school, not as AiR but as just a guitarist. Thanks to dumbtarts, a band which consisted of my older brother and his friends, after mismatches and a lot of arguments they broke up we received our first Ibanez electric guitar, amp, mixer and a keyboard. We had done some experimental songs with Shonchoy, a very skilled piano player for his age, but it did not really fit our style.
BRAVE COOKIE - Brave cookie started as an official band with me ayan, chris bido(bass), and rij(drums). Although I wasn't close with either of them at the time, they both were getting along well with ayan thus I tagged along for it. Brave cookie was the first time I played on stage, as a vocal with BC @ Dibner Auditorium . me and ayan played a few down low shows at cheap restaurants afterwards and that was it. BC was going no where, in terms of shows, talents, improvements or even recording. We did not have any chemistry and we certainly had disputes.
A Minor Revenge - started with almost the same line up of Brave Cookie, but with Taz as the keyboardist and Scott the engineer/2nd guitarist. AMR turned out more of a failure for us than BC, with no projects or recordings done, only once or twice the band actually met up together and no forward progression. After having no chemistry, i took myself out of the picture from AMR and let the others be.
On may 31st 2006, AiR was reborn. After a few cigarettes and a long conversation with ayan, we decided to forget AMR and BC, and start An Ideal revenge with just the two of us again. With only taz (keyboardist) and Rij as drummer on our mind we started to make some progression in terms of recording. Although we did not have any bassist or a drum set to record with, we used cheap softwares to get the job done and jot down quick ideas which would later flourish in the future.
As funny as it is, we found a bassist through craigs list. Not only was he a bassist we were looking for, but a great one who brings energy and idea to the table to complete AiR. We played our first show which was horribly prepared and very poorly organized at polytechnic university. Although it was a disaster, we as a band felt a bit more confident about our style. However the chemistry between us seemed to be tearing apart. Rij having almost no interest in the band to put fourth effort, Taz wanting to add a techno vibe, Shawon wanting to add a funk/hard vibe, Me wanting to add soft-rock vibe, and ayan wanting to satisfy all our demands at the same time.
After a few weeks me and ayan decided to lay off Rij, with no hard feelings and just look for a new drummer who would atleast be willing to work on materials.
On a horrendously snowy day when no trains were working, Me, ayan, shaown and taz all waited in the studio for a new drummer to arrive whom we've met in Polytech univ. After an hour of waiting, we forced taz on the drums.
Talk about magic.. Taz who we all thought was useless in everything else, turned out to be more than a miracle with drum sticks. With his first sittings he blew up, and our chemistry was at it's peak. Shawon slapping the bass, ayan playing the solos and me finally able to sing out of my lungs we put on a pretty good jam session. From that day the line up had officially changed, to what it still stands now and will hopefully forever stand.
Jamil (Lead Vocals)
Ayan (Guitar)
Shaown(Bass)
Taz(Drums)
the progression of our band boomed, within months we played two shows one at Polytech and another in City college. Although neither of them went very well, it is all about experience, and finding an identity. Although we were planning on recording a well quality demo album over the summer of 07, due to Taz and Ayan being in Bangladesh we were not able to do it, however our name had gotten out to various places. With invitations from 3 different mixing productions and two bars inviting us to play for them we had a big opportunity to gain new experiences however due to taz and ayan's absence at the time we could not achieve any of it.
AiR finally grew to be where it stands now after the summer of 07, with weekly jam sessions and more passion for each of our creations and willingness to write record and play shows we started improving not only as individuals but as a band. And I realized the bands that everyone remembers later on down the line was never catagorized as just a single genre of music. AiR ranges from hard rock, alternative, classic, funk to even a bit progressive sound with the various tracks. Why settle for one identity, when we can make use of all? Here we are fresh from our wombs right on the edge of time. We came far, and our greater achievements are ahead of us but with the right mindset and with the light in the distances and hope in our conscience, dreams will be real one day.
