Formed from high school friends in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, Beyond the Son started out as a four piece with the name of “Recapture” in the winter of 2003. After the departure of the original bassist, they spent four years honing their songwriting skills and searched for a solid commitment on Bass.
At the end of the process three of the original members: Blake Penner, Justin Boulter and Kevin Madden agreed that in order to move forward the group would solidify its lineup as a three piece. With Blake moving from vocals to bass, Justin on guitar and Kevin on drums, the group decided that everyone would provide vocals and switch up lead parts.
The last step was to adopt a new name for this next step. With it’s thought provoking concept and idea that asked the mind to reach past the realms of normal convention, Beyond the Son was born.
