In the sleepy Northern town of Midland, Ontario, self taught singer and songwriter Matt Playne began his musical career. Performing as an acoustic solo artist and with his band A Sleepless Dream, Matt gained the support and adoration of the county, jamming out at a variety of local venues. When Matt decided to pursue his vocal career with classical training at The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, he linked up with Jonah Kotzer, his friend, Coby Smith, and Blake Thiessen; childhood friends who had all ended up at the University. Jonah, Blake, and Coby had been playing music together for some time; inspired by a variety of acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Mumford & Sons, and even The Beatles. When Jonah and Matt discovered their mutual passion for music, the unique, Canadian, sound of Calvin James began to take shape. As the group matured, a mutual friend introduced them to local London, Ontario record label and recording studio Prevail Music. More than a year after signing to the Prevail Music label, beginning recording, and perfecting their act, Calvin James is poised to release their debut EP, Soil & Stone.
