Decognition is a hard rock band from Vancouver, B.C. Started a little more than a year ago, they have developed their own sound and style. It cannot be doubted that great things are to come.
From the ground up they are rock solid in their performance. With Ilya Viryachev pounding out double-bass fury coupled with bass playing by Jordan Khounviseth they create the driving rythm section that every band needs. As for the front line, the raging riffs and searing solos are done by six-string-slingers Daniel Tavaszi and Mischa Abalakov. On the front line, Jono Khounviseth rips out the searing vocals backed by Mischa and Jordan.
The band members come from diverse backgrounds, both musically and socially. Ilya and Mischa are of Russian descent, while Dnaiel Comes from a Romanian family. Jono and Jordan (Who, as you have probably figured out, are borthers) come from Laos, in Southeast Asia. With such a melting pot, everyone always has something to bring to the table.
Their primary influences are mostly from older grunge bands such as Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots, but they also draw from the likes of Opeth, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Porcupine Tree. There is no doubt that it's a firey mix. Currently recording songs for their first album, they have eight finished originals which have received widespread acclaim from their audiences.
