The band started off as just an a idea that Lance Kane (vocals), and Ben Ulmer (bass) thought up one day while walking around the streets of downtown Edmonton. It took some convincing and time, but eventually they got a close and good friend, Ryan Botto, to join as their guitarist. They had lyrics to a song with no music, no drummer, and they had already been asked to play a show by a local band that attended their school. Scrambling to get ready for a show, they got a close friend, Sam Watterworth, (who originally plays bass) to steal his brothers old run down drum set. Just after their first band practice together, things clicked instantly for them. Still without a name and their gig coming up fast, they spent a whole day writing any name they could think up and by the end they had put all of the names into Lance?s ammunition box (which was his lunch box at the time) and pulled out F.O.S. F.O.S. stands for Festival of Stupid, a name Lance got from his physics teacher, and they have stuck with it ever since. For their first show, everyone received stage names: Professor Globe (Lance), B-Box (Ryan), Billy Gnosis (Sam), and Fairy Boy (Ben). They were even able to get a good friend of Lance?s, Pana Boychuck, to drive them to their show in her run down 1994 GM Vanico, where they got lost on the way. Pana was then given the nickname Captain Driver, and is the band?s official transportation to all their band-related activities.
