Biography

Formed in the Spring of 2007, Fall of the Albatross delivers experimental metal that may come as a breath of fresh air to many fans of heavy music. Incorporating sexy jazz interludes, intense latin rhythms, emotionally driven rock riffs, and a strange, but witty sense of humor, Fall Of The Albatross manages to create metal that is eclectic and enjoyable for the open-minded listener. The band is currently recording their debut EP, due out early 2010. The boys of Fall of the Albatross are looking forward to turning a few heads with their unique style of songwriting and their intense, engaging live performance. Fall Of The Albatross began as a project for guitarists Harold McCummings and Colin Ruhwedel, formerly of the New York City’s Death You Endure. After two months of exchanging musical ideas, they decided it was time to “expand” them, and in order to do this they would need a extremely skilled drummer. In June 2007, Anthony Wong proved to be just the man they were looking for. The three began writing songs and practicing at Roxy Studios, where they took interest in playing a style of music that falls somewhere between experimental metal, hardcore, and grindcore. Because of their unique style, they felt a unique name would best suit the band. Colin suggested Arrakis, but soon recommended changing the name to Fall of the Albatross. Once the trio had their first few songs, they began looking for a bassist. After a handful of auditions, they recruited a bassist named Ricky. This lineup would change two months later when Ricky decided to leave the band. Harold, Colin, and Anthony continued writing, practicing and auditioning members. More than a year had passed since the band was formed when bassist Ramell Bass came along. Ramell Bass auditioned for the band after meeting drummer Anthony at a show. Ramell’s energy, skill and attitude earned him a spot in FOTA, completing 4/5 of the lineup, Temporarily. The band went struggled to find the right vocalist, at times wondering if they were destined to be an instrumental act. After auditioning vocalist Gio Hernandez, formerly of NYC’s well known band, Ismada, Fall of the Albatross seemed as if they had finally completed their lineup. Unfortunately, Gio’s time in FOTA was short lived. In March 2009 Ray Hodge of NYC local group Faculty auditioned to be the vocalist of Fall of the Albatross. The boys of FOTA were very much pleased with his audition and recruited him to complete the lineup of the band, for the moment. With the odd rhythms and jazzy guitar playing of Harold, the speed solos and dissonant riffing of Colin, the sexy, melodic bass lines and energy of Ramell, the pummeling blast beats and fast double bass of Anthony, and the power and presence of Ray’s voice, Fall of the Albatross is determined to move listeners through different emotions, to please their ears and at times make them hurt, without predictability or restrictions. Recently, Fall Of The Albatross has come across yet another chapter in their music career, and lost a few good men. The original trio is now looking for a new bassist and vocalist, to complete the band.
