With members coming together from all across the greater Vancouver area, the Ivy League Brawlers' city-wide diversity is an accurate representation of their musical diversity. Their music incorporates influences from rock to swing, funk to ska, soul to metal, and beyond. The Ivy League Brawlers put a strong emphasis on songwriting and it shows in the balance they achieve between the complexity, musicality and danceability of their songs.
This 8 piece band has a strong full sound with drums, bass, two guitars, vocal harmonies, and a full horn section consisting of trumpet, trombone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone. The interplay between all the instruments as well as the high energy performance put on by the Ivy League Brawlers always makes for an entertaining and inspiring show. Even going as far as choreographing dance moves to their songs, the band entertains their fans and make new ones at every show.
The band has shared the stage with many talented local acts in Vancouver from almost every genre and style of music. They have made new fans and new friends at each and every one of these shows as the Brawlers have realized their music can be enjoyed by anyone no matter what their taste in music may be as there are so many sides to the Ivy League Brawlers' sound that there's something for everyone to enjoy. Often times two music fans who might normally never be seen at the same show will both be found at a Brawlers show.
The Ivy League Brawlers have played many shows in and around Vancouver including some outstanding ones such as sold out shows at West Vancouver's Ambleside Youth Center, coming in first place out of 16 bands in a Langley battle of the bands competition and headlining an Olympic show at the Plaza of Nations. The band has also just recently released their debut “The Argyle Album” which was recorded at FaderMasters Studios.
The Ivy League Brawlers bring a passion for music to their songs and make it a point to put on an entertaining show every time no matter what the venue is. Because of this they have quickly gained momentum in the local music scene and can see nothing but good things ahead of them.
