The band was initially started by Kevin Tablizo and Andres Campos. After several months in hiatus, Kevin and Andres have finally decided that they want to return to performing live gigs. They started by searching for a suitable and versatile drummer, who could play a variety of different genres. After searching for a few months, Kevin found Bentzen Takyi.
Bentzen proved to be exactly what the two founders were looking for after a 2-hour jam session at Rehearsal Factory Studios. Although the band seemed to be fine as a three piece, Kevin still felt that there was still a missing element.
Through a separate band, Kevin found Mark Garcia. He invited Mark to a jam session at the studio in which numerous songs we're played to try and see if Mark can 'keep up' with the rest of the members...it turns out he can, and therefore Mark was welcomed aboard.
The band is currently working on a number of original material. As a band, they are focused on performing mostly originals as opposed to being submerged in covers.
The band name originated from a Jason Mraz song called "Live High", in which Kevin and Mark were helplessly obsessed with at that time. They were jamming one day at a local church, when the lyrical line:
"The call of the wild is still an ordination why
And the order of the primates
All our politics are too late"
popped up, and just like that, the band name was decided upon.
On May 21, 2009, OTP decided to add Kathleen Fregillana. There was no negative impact on the relationship between OTP and Andres Campos about this decision, it was mutual because it was very hard finding time to practice as a band. Order of the Primates welcomes Kathleen =)
