Review- June 2nd at the Elmo
6/5/2006 12:00:00 AM
Supernova would like to thank all the bands and fans who came out to the show on Friday June 2nd at the El Mocambo. It was a fun night full of lots of great covers and original music.
The night was kicked off by The Saundercooks, a great rock band with a guitarist that has some really good chops. They covered songs by Queens of the Stone Age and Pink Floyd. The next band to take the stage was Acrimony whose hard rock sound really got the crowd pumped up.
Absent Ending brought their "in your face" hardcore sound to the party and the crowd went wild slam dancing and moshing through most of the set. Nosiemethod kept that feel going playing great tune after great tune.
You Are Wrong, a newer band to the Supernova scene, played a great set of covers including the King of the Hill Theme. Vanishing Point played one of the more entertaining sets of the night. Their fans went nuts when the drummer broke into a crazy drum solo while the guitarist/singer and bassist did a little dance… shirtless. The ladies in the crowed seemed to enjoy it!
Next to hit the stage was The Aftermath, drawing an impressive crowd from their high school Father Bressani. They opened with a cover of Pearl Jams Alive and closed the show with Neil Young’s rocking in the free world. Cheep Thrill kept the crowd rockin’ and rollin’ playing a great cover of Mr. Cab Driver by Lenny Kravitz.
The only hip hop band of the night and our second place winners, Renegade, blew the crowd away with their tight rhymes and catchy hooks. By the end of their set the crowd was screaming for more, all this from a group who made their debut performance that night.
Rear View, a great pop punk band from Hamilton, showed Toronto how to rock. Their energetic live show and catchy tunes left you craving more. These boys took home the first place prize that night.
As the show started to come to a close the great acts just kept coming. Drole Manor played a strong set full of well crafted songs and great performances as well as the indefinable sound of Hello Beautiful who mixed rap, rock, funk and acoustic guitar. It was a great night and lots of fun was had by all. Thanks again to all that participated and the El Mocambo for having us.
