“A HERO RISES FROM THE DARKNESS OF THE DUNGEON”
6/2/2006 12:00:00 AM
Back to Oshawa, Ontario; the ‘Dirty Shwa’ to most and down into the depths of the Dungeon as the second show in as many nights for Summer Hero’s Supernova tour played its final stop.
A venue known for its darkness and Frankenstein stage setup (not to mention the filthiest toilets in Canada) the Dungeon provides a perfect setting for bands who like it a little dirty.
With bands like Pandemonium belting out gothic metal and the most in-sync head banging produced since the early 90s the venue had a slightly more ominous and death metal vibe going into the headliner’s set.
Summer Hero played to a hometown crowd and received a warm reception from the very first note. Playing a set to the raised hands and sweaty faces, the guys brought out the last of their energy to play ‘Tainted Hearts’, a crowd favorite. Wrapping up a tour in their hometown seemed fitting and the guys seemed happy to be home when all was said and done.
Wrapping up the evening were some great surprises including Fare Day Effect and a growling duet covering Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name of’ following an appearance from Kenny, the former front man of Dead For the Holiday. A killer set from a band out of Peterborough; Minus 2 closed the show. Though the crowd had long since lost its luster, the guys put on an enthusiastic show worthy of praise.
In the end A-Struct walked with top honors and Blucor advanced to the finals with a solid second place showing. They will now begin to prepare for their next date, opening for SOCIAL CODE in Mississauga, Ontario’s Playdium on Saturday, June 24th.
