Laying Down a Foundation…
6/27/2006 12:00:00 AM
Opening to the sounds of ‘13 Seconds’, a punk act with screamo undertones rocked the foundation despite the early timeslot. ‘Cherry Squares’ brought in a backup drummer for the performance and played songs reminiscent of old ‘Explosions in the sky’. ‘Ipecac’ followed up with some cool System of a Down covers and true to the band were heavy on the bass guitar.
‘Open Daily’ brought punk sounds and were countered by metal heads, ‘Sky Burial’ a cool mix from The Ramones covers to Cannibal Corpse, both bands put on a great show worthy of praise.
‘Join the Fallen’, a new addition to Supernova’s roster came out swinging with a tight stage show and rock roots with another screamo delivery. Not to be outdone was ‘Deafchild’ who brought their own unique brand of hard screamo rock to the stage.
Killing the set with their opening Sabbath cover was ‘Fallen Ministry’ that was all it took to grab and keep the crowd with fists in the air. Our third place finisher, ‘Fear the Storm’ came into fray and brought out a set of strong rock tracks and a cool stage show. Several other great bands played to a receptive crowd, ‘Fiend’ brought a good vocal lead and awesome finisher, but in the end the winners were ‘Final Thought’ and ‘Halfway to Hearsay’ taking home first and second respectively earning valuable recording time at Machinehead Studios.
