Lambi Battle in the Books
7/5/2006 12:00:00 AM
Back to Ottawa and to the infamous Club Lambi for another installation of the supernova.com Battle of the Bands series. A hot night in the city and a great night for independent music started off with newcomers ‘The Superstitions’ whose drummer at the age of 11, easily qualifies as one of the youngest rockers on Supernova’s show roster.
'Ambersparks' followed with a great set of melodic punk, and were followed in turn by yet another fairly young band, Velvet Goldmine.
The night’s victors, City Lights, went on fourth. Look to see them playing Ottawa on July 19th and check their profile on supernova.com for other battle showcases and to hear some of their newest music.
City Lights were followed by ‘In Cipher’, who came in from the town of Granby, managed to take second place in the contest the guys put on a great set and a cool stage show.
‘Break the Cycle’, ‘Quintessence’ and ‘The Furies’ brought up the middle of the pack to the delight of an excited and warmed up crowd.
The night was brought to a heavy close as the ‘Nefarious Souls’ and ‘Latema’ played back to back sets of fast, electrifying metal.
The battle brought out a great mix of genres and in the wake of all the high energy music, all the participants deserve praise for contributing to the advancement of independent music in Canada. Look for more great show dates in the Ottawa area at www.supernova.com and come support, or find a new favorite indie band.
