Foundation Rock Showcase
7/19/2006 12:00:00 AM
The Foundation is just that, a foundation for the development of new musicians. The venue has long been the incubator for top bands in, and around the northern GTA producing some very talented independent bands. The latest in the supernova.com summer concert series proved that things are still as healthy as ever in Canadian music as a packed set list of 17 Bands fought for bragging rights at the Supernova.com Battle of the Bands™.
5 piece “Of Malice” took the pole position covering Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying while “Internal Conflict,” also a 5 piece; brought out some killer guitar riffs both got the night moving and setting an excellent standard.
More metal came courtesy of “Mind over Murder” whose energy was conducted back through the crowd as “Nahart” took to the stage. The enthusiasm continued as “Fall the Loss” brought a Korn/Alexisonfire kind of mixture to the stage.
“Contrast” with female lead Rebecca Stephens on vox took second place. With a very impressive set they brought out some unique and original material uncommon in many young bands.
“Poison Delivery” took it back to metal sparking some riotous moshing, which in an odd way, turned to dancing as “Amidst the Ruins” brought punk back to the contest.
Known for crazy percussion metal and hardcore lyrics “Ipecac” played heavy while “Antagonist Hero” made sure to stay true to their namesake…enough said.
A quick acoustic venture from “Osiris” was a prelude to ‘R.O.A” a longtime supernova.com metal band and classic fan favorite for solid metal.
The Headliner, Idle Sons set a fine example defining the term “Professional Rock Band” as they continue to promote tracks from their newest release “16 Seasons” (Virgin/EMI).
