Maverick's show review
9/17/2006 12:00:00 AM
Twas the show before the finals and all through the night were screaming fans and Ottawa bands playing sets that were tight. HAHA...
Ephocolpse taking the first place prize, and Jamin Aura just behind in second this was a huge SOLD OUT show at Mavericks. All ten bands playing a wonderful set, each and every act has shown dedication, improvement and professionalism.
The show began with Egoista, a band that’s shown great improvement in the last couple of months. These guys must have been rehearsing with a click track because they were tight all the way through. Second to the stage were My Frailed Wings. They had a heavy sound that rocked the house to a sold out crowd. Born Under Massacre keeps coming back with new songs and a dedicated attitude. They showed the screaming fans what they were all about. Elbow Drop Sunday's played yet another tight and very entertaining stage show. Ephcolypse took the stage to a packed house and had them screaming like you wouldn't believe. Their 14 year old drummer played the double kick amazingly, and had a really tight back beat, helping these guys take first place. Jamin Aura had a tough act to follow but did a great job taking second place. The crowd loved the groovy melodies, and great vocals. Up next were the youngsters Discoveries and Believers, and believe me they’re talented beyond their years. These guys take the award for creativity in my books. Song structures were fantastic. Finishing the night was Sidikel and The Willis Pride Experience, both of whom rocked the house to bring the night to an end. Willis Pride was encored to do one more.
Thanks everyone who came out. SEE YOU AT THE FINALS, on September 30th at the NEW CAPITAL MUSIC HALL!
