Septermber 23rd Club Lambi Review
9/28/2006 12:00:00 AM
First and foremost, I want to give a BIG UP to everyone that attended the show this past Saturday at Club Lambi in Montreal. It was our most successful show to date in Montreal, and none of it would have been possible without the kids in the crowd who came out in droves to support the bands.
The first band of the night was Headscape. By the time these guy hit the stage, the house was half packed, and everyone was ready to rock to the opening band, which is rare sight indeed. Second on the bill were the youngsters of Project Mayhem, who are new on the Supernova roster but who I’m sure will be back to do more shows with us. Following them was the super heavy Process of Elimination, whose singer is, I would guess, nursing his vocal chords as we speak! Fourth on the bill were the French rock and punk stylings of Les Clams, who definitely know how to have a good time on stage. They were followed by the complex and melodic sounds of Down Von Day, who take the term ‘fan support’ to a completely new level. These guys must have had about a hundred people cheering their name before their set. That kind of fan-base usually indicates a quality band, and Down Von Day certainly impressed the judges enough to take a second place in the competition. Next we had the decked out all-girl rockstars of the night, and our winners, Penny Lane, who blew everyone away by putting on a show that far exceeded our expectations given their ages. They played a tight, hard set and accented it all with soaring vocals. Take it from me; these girls are all heartbreakers in the making!
Following Penny Lane were Supernova veterans the Whorables, (otherwise known as ‘the kings of the home made T-shirt industry!’). As usual, they did not disappoint, playing fast hard trashy sounding punk that harkens back to the sounds of the New York Dolls and The Exploited. Next we had another band who have been playing Supernova shows for several months now; The Comatose Bubble. Look for these guys to play our big show at the New Capital Music Hall this Saturday in Ottawa! Filing the last spot on the bill, and taking third place in the contest, was another rookie band, “Thick Blooded”, whose vocalist and guitarist impressed everyone with and incredible guitar solo to close out the night.
Don’t forget, we’ve got another show coming up at Club Lambi tomorrow, September 28th….i’ll see you all there.
