The overview is a inside joke for people who lived in Hawaii or visited. It is also intended to give you a taste of modern Hawaiian culture and not how Hawaii is naturally depicted on the television screen. As for the battle of the bands, the rules of deciding the winner for 1st and 2nd place is not base solely on the amount of votes you obtain, but by a panel of hidden judges in the audience.
