Amusia is a rock band that blends the progressive characteristics of odd meters and complex arrangements with elements of rock and pop. Their ever-evolving sound is a unique blend of the unexpected and the familiar -rhythmic experimentation and melodic beauty juxtaposed. A number of instruments and effects are layered in a blend of styles derivative of the band's extensive and varied influences.
Amusia’s rhythm section is paramount to their style. Drummer Mike Edin powers through songs, flowing through complex time signatures with ease, while Shafer Carson's complex, yet melodic bass lines perfectly compliment Mike's rhythmic strength. In addition, Shafer's use of synthesizers lays the foundation for a rich and textured soundscape.
Guitarist Chris Hogan provides the band with its melodic center, the true balancing point of melody and rhythm. Alternating between heavy rock riffs and atmospheric layers from song to song, he incorporates tools like the EBow to enrich the overall sound.
Completing the line up is vocalist Adrian Naqvi, whose versatility and range is showcased throughout the band's repertoire. His dynamic voice and strong melodic sensibility is the driving force that draws a clear path through Amusia’s unique sound.
Amusia released their first full length album “Time Will Tell” on February 10, 2012 and are currently tearing up the live music scene in Vancouver.
