BIGGREENTANKS'S BIOGRAPHY

BIG GREEN TANKS BIG

‘The Beginnings’

The BIG GREEN TANKS did not begin with a wealth of musical knowledge; instead they relied on creativity, drive, and optimism.  With a singer who never sang and a drummer who never drummed, the Tanks used melodic bass lines as the cornerstone on which to construct their sound.  Citing influences such as Radiohead, Morphine, Smashing Pumpkins, and U2, the band simply played what they could while creating music from their collective minds.

Taking their name from a toy tank sitting in Wayne’s apartment, the Big Green Tanks progressed slowly but steadily, always moving forward, never accepting defeat.                          The BIG GREEN TANKS started playing shows in the winter of 2003.  Since that time the band has competed in a number of competitions including The Station Square Rock Off in the spring of 2004.    They came back to Station Square the following summer with “Seven Color Sky.” They had a few ‘bouts in the Emergenza organization, playing shows at the 31st Pub,
Shadow Lounge, and Mr. Small’s Theatre.  Other stages the BIG GREEN TANKS have appeared on include Howlers Coyote Café, The Lava Lounge, Club Café, Moondogs, Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, and Mozart Hall at the University of Pittsburgh.  The BIG GREEN TANKS have also set up a number of shows and have been critical in the organization of an annual summer music festival.
‘Renstock FordCityMusicFest’ began as an annual summer party held by the Renshaw family on their 100 acre farm.  In 2005, Jason Renshaw approached Perry James, lead singer of the BIG GREEN TANKS, to organize a couple of bands together to play sets which concluded with a display of fireworks. The next year, again with the help of Jason Renshaw, the BIG GREEN TANKS organized a much larger event which included two nights of music, and sharing the stage with seven other talented bands from the Greater Pittsburgh Area.  The BIG GREEN TANKS are looking forward to lending a helping hand in the organization of this year’s upcoming, and growing ‘Renstock’.
Now, coming into the spring of 2007 the BIG GREEN TANKS have just completed their first full-length album entitled A Pretty Mechanical Toy.  The album has been solely produced and recorded by the BIG GREEN TANKS and is a testament to the band’s determination to make an impact on the music listening world.
