We had fun time playing the other night, even if it seemed like a private show. Thank you Sean and Supernova for putting on a good night.

Andy Freak says:Ali Malik says:Hey, Ali the apprentice here, taking you through another RedPipe.ca ‘Summer Warfare’ Experience. Please keep in mind that I was not able to witness all of the acts, so please, if your band is not mentioned in my spiel it’s because I didn’t catch it!
The first act that I caught was ‘Substance Over Style’, perfect name for the band, as they don’t rely on dance steps nor do they rock the bling. I don’t know why, but I got a “wholesome fun” vibe from their performance.
The following performance was crowned set of the night, ‘Dances with Wolves’. Very good band, very hard to describe their style. At times they sounded like Faith No More’s ‘Easy’, and at other times they sounded like post-grunge progressive rock. Every once in a while Morello like effects were played on the axe as well. The bands a nogan scratcher, but it’s a good itch.
‘A Hint of Black’ was a very good following act. If I could describe them in a style, I’d say… Imagine mid/late-90s punk blended with Queens of the Stone Age.
I also remember hearing a cover of American Hi-Fi’s “Flavor Of The Week”. “Too stoned, Nintendo”… lyrics like Brad Nowell.
‘Middle Management’s the following act; they are a two piece rap act. Very cool guys, and a very cool performance. They were dressed up as their name depicts they would… business casual, with a formal touch. I would love to watch Office Space with these guys, almost as badly as I want to watch bad music videos with Beavis and Butthead.
On stage then goes the featured act of the night, ‘FiVE STAR AFFAiR’. Very good band from Calgary! Personally I’m not too big of a ska fan, but the guys and gals put on a killer performance, due to the deep bass and the amount of Reggae influence. The band showed their roots and played a little bit of NOFX and covered Rancids ‘TimeBomb’. Congrats on the great performance that you guys did, and good luck on the Warped Tour!
‘A Masochistic Parody’ took the stage next and due to the departure of the friends and family of ‘FiVE STAR AFFAiR’, the crowd simmered down a bit. I feel sorry for these lads, as the crowd energy went on a bus heading to the Warped Tour. The guys still put on a great set. A good modern rock sound is present with these guys!
Last performance was from ‘The Heard’, solo act playing an electric guitar. He was around the entire night promoting his band. Very good idea, create awareness, but my advice for networking / promoting should be less aggressive. Please don’t request phone numbers or facebook requests from strangers. Take another approach… flyers, business cards, etc. ‘The Heard’, has an Oasis feel. Although, I would recommend a solo acoustic set, over a solo electric set. That’s just my personal preference, when I hear an electric guitar played without snare hits, symbol crashes, and bass smacks, it don’t sound right. Unless if you can tap like Eddie Van Halen.
All and all a great night, lots of people were out, fun was had by all. Cheereo.
PS: Tara the new apprentice feels like she’s left out without a Supernova shirt. Please fans, send your hate mail to...
Supernova Entertainment 123 Fake Street Lake Titty Kaka,CA 90210Why did you miss the two opening bands?I missed 3 bands in total, just b/c I was running around from the Elmo to the Supernova office to talking to bands outside of the Elmo throughout the night.
Although I did catch glimpses here and there, but not enough to write a proper review. Hope to catch you guys and the others that I missed at another show!
