The judges are kept annonymous because, frankly, industry members don't want to get harassed at live events by bands trying to pitch their music... we have distinct voting criteria set out before the show, and every single band that plays signs a contract stating that they understanding the judging criteria.

If you still think it's unfair, consider this - most gigs don't award hundred of dollars in prizing. The prize should be a bonus - the exposure and experience is the real value of playing a Battle :)
