SoundMonster is an alternative band from BC that packs distinctive pop/rock vocals and guitar melodies in to a variety of original songs. The band has gone through a few changes since releasing their debut Year of the Monster album at the end of 2010, and now sits as a well-rounded three/four piece that has carved out a sound and a name for themselves.
SoundMonster first played with Supernova at this year’s Summer Meltdown and became a huge hit with our fans, winning second place and recording time. SoundMonster returns to the Supernova stage this January for the highly anticipated Hysteria Finals where they hope to win the opportunity to showcase for Coalition Music.
These shows should be just in time to hear some of their new music, which the band has been working on with both SoundMonster Studios and 403 Studios in preparation for their new CD Planet. The first single, Kingdom of Whispers, can be heard on the band’s profile and shows their quality of distinctive, high energy tunes.
Supernova sat down with the members of SoundMonster after their victory at Summer Meltdown… which turned out to be a great opportunity to get to know these musicians before they launch a new CD and hit the stage in 2012!
SoundMonster formed in 2009 and how we got the band name came from our continuously creative lead guitarist T-String. And how we as a band got to where we are today, is through the great support of our fans.
How would you describe your band’s sound?
If pop was a city and rock was a city, we would be the highway that connects the two.
Ha that's a great analogy! What do you find most rewarding about being in a band?
The most rewarding thing about being in this band is being able to express our creativity through our music.
Our band was introduced to Supernova through our Band Manager/Promoter, Marianne Fernandez. We would recommend to other bands that being part of Supernova is an awesome way to be part of the online music scene.
As a 'new' artist, what do you feel is your biggest challenge?
... to be different and original from other bands.
What would be your band’s ‘motto’ or 'recipe' for success?
Our motto is….never stop trying; just get up, brush it off and keep on going. And for our recipe for a good performance.. well, it’s all about energy and showing our passion for music through our performance and our songs.
What is your most memorable moment (so far) as a band?
The most memorable moment that we experienced as a band was when we got busted by the cops for playing too loud. This happened recently at our old studio location before the studio moved.
That's pretty "Rock n' Roll" ... do you think there is such a thing as ‘bad’ music?
To us, “bad music” is music being made just for the sole purpose of making money and not for the true purpose for the art of music.
What else should new listeners know about you?
With our unique sound and style of music, and through every song that we play, we want to captivate our fans through the integration of our emotions and energy that is expressed through our songwriting and music. And hopefully, through our creativity, our music will continue to be heard around the world.
