My band has made it when...

Introducing Piss Ticket

Piss Ticket is a Winnipeg punk/alternative band that showcases kick ass punk energy up on the big stage. Differentiating from the more chaotic screamo bands on their local scene, Piss Ticket brings together well-blended melodies, a heavy splash of classic punk, and all the party rock needed for a great high-energy throw down.

This young 4 member Winnipeg group has earned a strong reputation on the Supernova stage, playing 7 major Battle competitions. Piss Ticket has brought a strong showing at each event, including Summer Meltdown, Band on the Run, and HYSTERIA where they took home second place and 5 hours of recording time.

Since their win, the band has been hard at work on their new demo while preparing to compete in the Hysteria Finals this January. We managed to grab Myles of Piss Ticket for a quick interview; if there’s one thing I can definitely say, it’s that this band is ready to hit the finals stage!

So without further ado… Myles will introduce Piss Ticket:

I’m Myles; I play drums and am the general idiot. Anya plays bass and rocks out the most. Cole plays guitar and shreds like a beast; and Liam sings and dances better than Winnie the Pooh.

Thanks! So what is your band's history?

Our band has been around for a year and a bit. I personally thought of the name while we were sitting about practicing, and thought "eh... how bout the name PissTicket?" - and it just seemed to click. I quite like the name but some people may find it a bit obnoxious.

How would you describe your sound?

Our band's sound is a lot of Ramones, a bit of AC/DC, a bit of The Clash, and a pinch of everything else. It’s a nice cocktail of flavours.

What is the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

For me the most rewarding thing is being able to say, "yeah I’m in a band".

What is your most memorable moment (so far)?

The most memorable thing for me was being in a studio playing drums, singing, and freezing my butt off (it was cold in there).

What is the biggest challenge facing 'new' artists, in your opinion?

The biggest challenge is being a punk rock band stuffed in the middle of all these screamo bands. They’re such a one way street that most of them can't appreciate any other genres of music.

How did your band find Supernova.com?

The local radio station Power 97 was having a promotion with Supernova. I’d tell bands to join it and play as many gigs as possible; but not to worry about being good, just have fun.

What would be your band's 'motto' or 'recipe' for putting on a good show?

"Don’t suck"...

Hahah, ok... Where is your favourite place to practice or play?

The Pyramid, it's a comfortable place with a good vibe.

Is there any other Artist who you'd consider a 'mentor'?

My mentor would be my dad. Any problem I’ve ever had with the band he's helped me through, plus he's real good at nagging everyone in the band which isn’t helpful at all haha.

That can be necessary! Is there such a thing as 'bad' music?

I don’t think there’s bad music; only music that some people don’t enjoy. As long as someone is moved by it, it’s all right.

Is there anything else that makes your band unique that new listeners should know?

Our songs have melodies, which are rare now a days. And we're not going on stage thinking were the greatest band ever: meaning were gonna look like a real band, and not just another Led Zeppelin rip off.

You can catch Piss Ticket as they take the stage for the Supernova HYSTERIA FINALS on Sunday January 22nd at the Pyramid Cabaret... some support these young artists as they compete for over $50,000 in prizing!

In the meantime, be sure to check out the band's profile to hear some awesome originals and quirky covers from Piss Ticket. Independent bands rely on your support, and it never hurts to leave a comment to let them know what you think of the tunes!
