My band has made it when...

Introducing Escaping Insanity

Escaping Insanity is a burgeoning metal band from Langley, BC that can mix breakdowns and melodies with a vengeance. The band was an instant smash at their recent Supernova show, taking home 2nd place and 4 hours of recording time. Now with two shiny new demos and a ton of practice in hand, this young 4-piece prepares for the Van Sessions Finals where they could win a 3 month consultation with S.L. Feldman and Associates.

With a raw energetic performance (as evidenced above) Escaping Insanity is quickly making a solid name for themselves on the local metal scene. Fans swear by this party hard performance band, and rush to see them hit the stage. As Escaping Insanity get ready to move to the next level, we grabbed a quick interview with these hard playing, hard partying young musicians.

Introducing Escaping Insanity:

Kevin "K-core" (drums)

Shaun "Shaun" (vox)

Julian "Mowgli" (guitar)

Colin "C-bas" (bass)

So how do you guys describe your sound?

We would describe our sound as hardcore metal, heavy breakdowns, melody and Shaun.

Hahaha... So how did you get together as a band?

Originally the band started with a drummer, a bass player and a vocalist in Kevin's basement, and then we met Julian and started writing new songs. When we departed with our original bass player it was about 7 months until we finally picked up our good pal Colin to complete our line-up. We decided to use [our band name] because we all escape our insanities through music and going to shows. After we moved again to our current jam space, finally shows started happening!

We got to play with some sick local metal bands such as Nylithia and Dawning Of The Inferno, and thanks to everyone voting for us in the Vancouver Sessions at the Cobalt we were able to hit the studio for the first time at Ear Art. We're able to get 2 demos from those four hours which are now posted on our Supernova page and Facebook.

How did you find Supernova?

We were told about Supernova through a friend. I would tell other bands that it's a fun experience; we've met some real cool dudes playin' our last show, so I would recommend it to anyone.

What's the most rewarding thing about playing music for you?

Seeing people rock out in the front row... meeting new people.

What's the most memorable thing you've done so far as a band?

Back in March, the band had a fun-filled weekend going to the concerts in three days all at the Rickshaw Theater downtown. Kataklysm, Conducting from the Grave, All Shall Perish, Between Seas, Deadbeat, Galgamex, The Contortionist, Suffokate, I Declare War, Veil of Maya, Acacia Strain and Whitechapel. We all had a blast listening to some heavy tunes and havin' lots of drinks... that was by far our fav time together.

Where is your favourite place to practice or play?

The Energy House.

What would be your ‘motto’ for putting on a good show?

Just making sure that we don't have a few too many, and giving it 110% on stage.

What is the biggest challenge facing ‘new’ artists, in your opinion?

Biggest challenge would have to be trying to stand out more and sounding different than other bands out there. There's so many out there its hard to be original these days.

So how do you define "bad music"?

Country.

Haha, ok... Is there any other Artist who you’d consider a ‘mentor’?

Our good bud Joel Brown!

Random shout out? Hmm.. anything else that listeners should know about your band?

What makes us unique is that our sound is different: it's brutal yet beautiful. And anyone that's a fan of metal should give us a listen.
