Introducing Soul Auction

Soul Auction is a metal infused death core band who have played and conquered MANY stages, including a string of Supernova victories in Battle. “Mixing two very popular styles of music, Nu metal & DeathCore,” Soul Auction is offering something original and appealing to a massive audience of fans who can't wait to hit the pit.

Boasting over 30,000 hits in just over a year, Soul Auction has seen a ton of attention from Supernova fans. At their shows, they always bring a torrent of energy to the stage; and it has earned them several major wins. In May 2011, the band grabbed 1st place and brought the ‘best mosh pit ever’ to the Diesel Room; they returned in June to grab 2nd place at the Sound Academy Band on the Run event.

Soul Auction is currently competing in the Ontario HYSTERIA Finals for $50,000 in prizing, hoping to take the Wildcard for their performance this past weekend.

It’s the perfect time to get to know the hard hitting independent talent behind Soul Auction:

Tristen "Treesh" Alsop - Vocals

John "Hippy" Farrell - Bass

Ronny "Rooster" Jarvis - Guitar

Adam - Drums

So I hear you guys have some unique gear…?

Ronny is playing a 7 string Ibanez guitar - drop tuned, giving us a really heavy sound that’s complimented by John’s 5 string Ibanez bass - also drop tuned. And to top off the sound, our drums hold a nice heavy background beat while Tristen pumps the crowd; his "unique" vocals giving the band its "nu-core" sound.

How would you describe the ‘Nu Core’ sound?

Groovie Nu-Metal riffs, hard hitting DeathCore vocals and Catchy Breakdowns. Mixing two very popular styles of music: Nu metal & DeathCore - making a sound we call "Nu Core".

Cool, so what is your band’s history?

Soul Auction started 2007 with the bassist John Farrell asking Ronny Jarvis if he would learn drums and wanted to start a band ? Like most bands, we went through a lot of changes like different members, band names, and styles. In 2008 - 2009 The band came up with the name Soul Auction one night and has stuck with the name ever since.

Our style really started to grow when Ronny switched from drums to a Seven string guitar and dropped it down a whole step to "A", which gave the band a really deep sound. In 2010 Tristen Alsop found out that John and Ronny were jamming with out a drummer or vocalist so we tried merging; at the 1st jam we knew Tristen had what it took to be part of the band.

In early 2011 the band found Brent Paradis. One day the band started jamming in Brent’s basement and everything just seemed to click. A few weeks later we played our 1st show at the MOD club (April 2nd, 2011) and have since played a handful of other shows with some great bands. We’ve taken our sound and performance to a whole new level, and never looked back on anything.
(the band has currently changed to a new drummer)

You guys are pretty new; so far what is the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

To hear people scream your bands name after playing a song. Just making music , and all the memories, and more to come.

And so far, what's been your most memorable moment as a band?

Partying at Waynestock 2011: madness in Cadmus, playing 2 of our best sets to date it was an amazing time for all.

What's your secret recipe for a good show?

Go out and rock it - we can only grow as a band and musicians.

Hmm, so what is the biggest challenge for new bands?

Finding truly dedicated member to stick around and work hard with you, and show they want it like you do. If they don't, they're only going to pull you down.

Good advice. How did you end up on Supernova?

We were scanning, looking for shows around our area, and something brought it up to us. It was perfect and yes, I would tell other bands that just want to get help towards getting started about this [site].

Are there any Artists who Soul Auction might consider a ‘mentor’?

Yes, the biggest influences/mentors for us are Suicide Silence and Korn.

And finally, is there such a thing as ‘bad’ music?

No such thing as bad music. Perception is reality.
