My band has made it when...

Introducing Livid and the Bloodthirsty

Livid and the Bloodthirsty is a band out of Brampton, Ontario that mixes an intoxicating blend of heavy, death, and metal core music for their fans. Like most metal bands, they can lead, shred, pound and thrash their way through any performance; but like GOOD metal bands, they also know how to entertain the audience with a savage display of mosh-worthy entertainment.

The 5-man collective works together to create Livid and the Bloodthirsty’s original tracks, and each of the young band members helps to influence their show. The band has hit the Supernova stage hard, including performances at the El Mocambo and Sound Academy for Supernova's Battle of the Bands, the CNE Road to ExFest and the Toronto Showdown 2011. They also won TWO fan-voted Wildcard prizes, and have just released a new single Revelations. With their recent show at Toronto’s Sound Academy for the HYSTERIA Finals, this metal band is quickly gaining notoriety.

These young artists have worked hard to play some of their biggest local venues, and eager to tell fans about their music… so we grabbed an interview!

Introducing Livid and the Bloodthirsty:

Brad (aka Goog) - the drummer and the youngest

Lloyd (aka Mongo) - the bassist, Goog's older brother

Sandy - the rhythm guitarist

Joe - the lead guitarist and audio expert

Jonny (aka Megajon) - the vocalist, guitarist, illustrator and lyricist

So tell me, how did you guys come together to form a band?

The band itself started out as a side project of Lloyd’s when he teamed up with his good friend Jonny ,who also knew how to play guitar. Lloyd previously played with a rock blues band called KUSH aka the Joe Experience, which included Sandy and Joe. The idea was to get a metal band started as a hobby for the weekends.

Brad, Lloyd’s little brother, acquired a drum set and started to jam with the two. After the better part of a year of jamming, lifelong friends Sandy and Joe were conscripted in to the crew. Then came few more months of song writing and the band was given the opportunity to play their first show in March of 2011. This forced the band to come up with a name. A couple of ideas were tossed around the crew but the band became set on Jonny's suggestion of Livid and the Bloodthirsty.

It’s definitely unique; how do you describe your sound?

Our sound is an eclectic blend of death metal, deathcore, and metalcore; even though that is a vague description, because the band strives to create a unique sound for which they can call their own. Suffice to say that all the quintessential elements of metal are present.

Are there any artists you see as mentors?

Crimson Shadows and Beating A Dead Horse.

And as new artists, what do you see as your biggest challenge?

The biggest obstacle for aspiring artists in our genre is to gain a crowd with open minds to appreciate the themes and emotions that our band portrays. Also to gain acceptance from a discerning metal community.

How did you find Supernova?

Anybody in Canada who as ever had any kind of involvement in any music scene has heard of Supernova. Using the services that Supernova provides can give bands the exposure they need to spread their music.

You have definitely been able to gain some exposure; what’s most rewarding about being in a band?

The most rewarding thing about being in a band is the cool adventures that we share, meeting new people and sharing our love of music with the world.

Any favourite moments so far?

The best times we have are the ones that we don't remember the next day.

Haha, good point. What advice would you give to other artists who want to be like you?

One is to work hard. Making music is a lifestyle and you need to pour the entire essence of your being into it. Two take full advantage of social media outlets such as Facebook, twitter etc. to spread your sound across the globe. There's always someone out there who will love your stuff.

What's more important: original music or original performance?

Original music. A band with no recordings is like a painter with no paintings.

Is there such a thing as ‘bad’ music?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is always someone out there who will like some kind of music, so it can never be considered bad. Right now our brand of metal is probably one of the more hated genres of any; you never hear it on any Toronto based radio stations, but that doesn't stop us from loving it. Gotta persevere! Anything else your fans should know?

The energy Livid and the Bloodthirsty brings to the stage and to your ears is a whole other level of awesome… And the fans should know to tread cautiously when moving through the mosh pits; it could get bloody.
