The Gods of Karma is a metal band from Mississauga known for brain-scrambling, chaotically beautiful musical coordination. To say they have a distinctive style is an understatement; their skill for speed dominates the stage with a forceful tirade of brutal sound.
The Gods of Karma hit the
El Mocambo with Supernova during the
HYSTERIA competition, and easily grabbed the fan-voted
Wildcard prize. Their blistering guitar peels and manic percussion not only amazed the fans, but left them in the dust and screaming for more. We grabbed an interview with the 5-man fist of metal after their show, to ask these musicians how they create such a powerful impact.
Introducing Gods of Karma:
Siddharth Surendra (Sid) – Guitar
Chirayu Surendra (Ted) – Guitar
Travis Telford – Vocals
Lucas Di Mascio – Bass & Vocals
Anthony Kubik (’twon) – Drums
So guys, how do you all fit in to the band?
Everyone has something that they bring to the table, examples being Anthony is good at coming up with breakdowns and has lots of connections with promoters. Everyone has their skill.
Sid started a punk cover band from people in highschool that aren’t in the band anymore. Went through numerous line up changes over the past two years. It wasn’t until Anthony and Lucas showed up that we had a stable line-up. The name was original just something random an old member came up with, but as time went by our lyrical content started to reflect our name!
Cool, and how would you describe your sound?
BRUTAL! We are quite technical and hate power chords!
Do you consider any other artists to be 'mentors'?
Travis: Randy Blythe from
Lamb of God.
Sid: Kris Norris from
Darkest Hour.
Ted: A.J. Minette from
The Human Abstract
Anthony: Jon Rice from
Job For A Cowboy.
Lucas: Dave Ellefson from
Megadeth.
For you, what is the most rewarding thing about music?
Groupies.
Haha... How did you find Supernova.com?
We found it through another band who’s also associated with
Supernova. It’s a good place to start your musical endeavors.
What do you see as the biggest challenge for new artists?
There is a lack of artist development these days, especially from major labels. It can be hard to get even the simplest of gigs unless you are extremely persistent!
True... so what's your rules for putting on a good show?
Never play under the influence of anything! (including sugar).
What is your most memorable moment (so far) as a band?
Kicking out our old drummer! Good times...
Hahaha... do you believe there such a thing as ‘bad’ music?
There is no such thing as a bad genre of music, however all genres have their artists that stink!
Well said! Is there anything else that your listeners should know?
We’re on the technical side and have two vocalists: one for the brutal growling, the other for the melodic aspects of our music.
