Awaiting Victory – Never Be Destroyed

3.5/5 Originality
4/5 Song Writing
4/5 Image

Total: 11.5/15

Awaiting Victory is a five piece, hardcore metal band from Barrie, Ontario, quickly evolving into the music scene. I received a down to earth impression of the members, by simply studying their photograph. Resting collectively on the train tracks, presents a peaceful, and subtle appeal, contrary to their music. Awaiting Victory’s first track, "Never Be Destroyed," demonstrates a great deal of potential. It’s solid structure and impressive use of accenting by the second guitar sets them apart from bands in the same category. If they are interested in breaking away from the competition, I would suggest introducing a chord progression to the mix, and possibly adding more layers of instruments. Incorporating well thought-out harmonies, like those seen in the introduction, would thicken the sound significantly and add a new style to the music. I enjoyed the interesting harmonies in the introduction; however, there were quite a few single-note breakdowns in the song. I understand that breakdowns are particularly adamant in hardcore metal (I'm not saying to rid the song of them) but possibly a higher variation in notes would add an unique element to them, rather than sticking to the open drop C string. The drums kept the timing very well, and were especially well recorded. On the other hand, the guitar’s tone could have used a little work. If mic-ing the amplifiers seem to be the best option, opposed to using a virtual amplifier, you could achieve a better tone by turning down the High and Gain knobs. Unfortunately, my opinion can’t be completely accurate, without examining all of the instruments. Involving bass and vocals in your recording would without a doubt, provide more dimension and dynamics to the song. I look forward to hearing the finished product, and possibly making it out to one of their performances.

Keep up the music, and good luck in the future.
