A Cadence for Heresy is an extremely unique five-man band, from Buffalo. Their style of music drastically draws them apart from numerous metalcore bands. Their songs “That’s What She Said” and “No Pvp Noob,’’ contain combinations of genres from hardcore metal to southern rock. They’ve established a support system by listening to each member’s preferences, and creating music, which displays each of their strengths, in order to maintain a successful band. This allows each member to contribute to the best of their abilities, and provide a wider range in sound. A Cadence for Heresy appears to be an energetic group, who aren’t afraid to be themselves. This is confirmed simply by reading the title of their songs. Their image seems to reject the stereotypical impression of metalcore artists. They also seem to dress the way they desire, and aren’t afraid to step out of the template in which most other metalcore acts follow.

Both songs featured melodic riffs, which were pleasing to the ears, and a chord progression, that is often ignored throughout metalcore. Their vocals were also very unique; varying in styles from low growls to high, clean pitches. It’s easy to notice that they paid close attention to their timing, form, and structure. Although it’s not bad for a demo, the guitar tone wasn’t as pleasing as it could’ve been. I was also surprised to hear a bit of blues influence in “No Pvp Noob.” I’m really impressed with the fact that A Cadence for Heresy strives to not be placed in a specific catergory of music. However, I would place less emphasis on breakdowns, if they wish to resemble metalcore less. I would recommend also working a bit on the tone and perhaps placing more elements in the music, which will demonstrate your unique style even further. (Maybe more harmonies, or adding a keyboard?) Overall, I think they’re doing a great job, and I hope they maintain their unique style, by staying true to themselves and their music.

Celestial Dawn is a 5-piece band hailing from Montreal, Quebec.  They have fused many different influences together to create a very unique sound.  The use of clear, operatic vocals and coarse vocal timbre by Bruno is enough alone to make this band a definite listen.  The guitar work done by Kash and Martin is also extremely well done and every melody and harmony has been placed perfectly.  Celestial Dawn has been together for ten years now, and is still writing and playing shows.  They have an album out called “Disorder”, and an EP called “Genesis”, which attracted attention from Germany's Insanity Records.  If I had to summarize Celestial Dawn's music in five words, I would take it directly from their biography, “Metal weakens when it's recycled.” Clearly, there is very little recycling taking place here.

Celestial Dawn has very much to offer in the way of originality.  Their music is composed of a wide range of influences and moods.  One could listen to a slower, clean song such as “Reoccurring Symptoms” and see their softer side; whereas one could listen to “Disorder,” and see their fast-paced technical side.  In either extreme, Celestial Dawn proves to stand out drastically from the crowd. There isn't a single aspect of Celestial Dawn's music that I disagree with.  Solos are placed perfectly, the harmonies are logical, the melodies flow beautifully, and all the tracks are layered very well.  One can clearly see influences stretching from power metal to melodic death metal but no single label or genre can really be applied to this band.

Celestial Dawn has clearly put a lot of work into their bands logo.  It catches the eye upon first glance and drew me into the band enough to listen to them and write this review in the first place. It would help to have more pictures of the actual band members; however, the photos presented were artistically captured, displaying eye pleasing perspectives, and unique poses. Overall, I believe Celestial Dawn is an excellent band, with a great deal of potential. I can only hope that they put as much effort as possible into getting their name out into the music scene to gather a larger fan base. As far as musicianship and songwriting is concerned, they are doing very well.
