Review By Ali Malik

Hello, Hello!

Happy New Years to you and yours!  I hope everyone is enjoying the start of their New Years.  The year 2007 was a fun one for me, living through a lot of things that I didn’t think was ever going to happen to me.  From seeing Rage Against The Machine on a California desert to seeing Neil Young and Crazy Horse rocking Massey Hall, I witnessed some of the greatest indoor and outdoor shows in the history of (wo)mankind.  Heck even in a place that has a rotating ceiling (The Rogers SkyDome), another first happened when I caught a foul ball that Aaron Hill smacked in the 500’s.  Good ole’ Aaron Hill, gotta love a baseball player that insists to use either “Iron Man” or “California Love” as his entrance music to the plate.  Oh 2007… glorious days!

Anywho, let’s get the wrench off the shelf and put this tool to use… I’m here to edumacate everyone on Supernova’s Top Band for the week of January 7, 2008 (Adulteration) and December 31, 2007 (Theme For Murder).

Top Music Week January 7th: Adulteration

Originality (3/5)
I love the bands music box image displayer, as there is a silhouette of an explosion in the form of different hand gestures (one being the devil horns, the other being the middle finger).  Although I have seen that used by another band, so I don’t know if this band deserves a 0 or a 5, I guess we’ll let the courts decide that one, and I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to 3!

Song Writing (4/5)
The musical aspect of the band is fairly good.  The instrumental segments of their songs are superb, although I am not a fan of the raspy growl of a metal voice.  Although at times I heard your voice crackle and it gets on different levels from time to time.  A voice coach is recommended, and no it isn’t lame to have a voice coach, being able to properly project your voice is something that can be an asset of yours.  Maynard is a perfect example of how important vocals are, whether it’s “Hooker with a Penis” or “The Pot”.

Image (how band presents / markets itself) (4.5/5)
The band is metal.  They keep their profile short and sweet.  Five songs are featured in their music player and their biography consists of nothing but the definition of the bands name.  Which is the way I like it… when it comes to metal sound is primary and everything else is secondary!  Keep it loud!

Band’s Total Rating = 11.5/15

Next Steps
Play shows. There’s nothing else you can really do, unless if you want to live on your knees

Top Music Week December 31st: Theme From Murder

Originality (3/5)
The songs this band has up in their profile contain the dueling vocal routine, the typical one growler and one in-tune.  I like their cover art for their songs.  Also the track “Destroying Something Beauitful” has a surprising guitar solo at the end.  It wasn’t expected, but is much appreciated!

Song Writing (4.5/5)
What seems like an emo song at the start ventures off into 80’s metal in the form of Maiden or Priest.

The band needs to leave a better description in their profile, as well as fixing up a couple of spelling errors.

Band’s total rating = 10.5/15

Next Steps
Change your e-mail address from cky444@msn.com to something else (ie. your bands name).  No booker will take your band seriously when looking at that e-mail address.  It’s like KISS using the e-mail address alicecooper111@msn.com

With the New Years being 10 days old now, one thing I hope is that we can go forward from this day being less emo, in a perfect world we would all be listening to Black Sabbath.

Peace, Love, Rock N’ Roll.

-Ali
