Top Music Chart Week of February 11th: Bolero
Originality: 5/5
Song Writing: 5/5
Image: 5/5
Total: 15/15
Not only is Bolero an inspiring metal band with tremendous talent from Whitby, Ontario, but they are also one of my favourite local acts. They display a unique collaboration of genres from neoclassical and folk, to technical and melodic metal. Their wide ranges of metal influences are demonstrated in their energetic track “Nihilism” and their catchy, new addition, “Through the Ages.” Both songs illustrate the unique, black metal vocals, courtesy of Morgan Rider. The brilliant melodies and guitar layering composed by Colin Webster, speak for themselves. Clearly, there is a vast musical knowledge present in this group to produce this high quality of work.
Bolero demonstrates the fundamentals necessary for a successful band, by considering each members preferences and collectively adding to the writing process. Already at the beginning of their musical careers, they’ve had many amazing opportunities presented to them. After merely one performance, they are awaiting their upcoming mini-tour this April, with such popular bands as Blinded by Faith and Profugus Mortis.
They also appear to have full control over their site by making some distinctive additions. Their variety of photographs introduced the viewers to each member mentioned in their extensive band biography. I was surprised to see the flyer for their future performance and several band logos designed by the members. According to their pictures, I received the impression that they are serious about their music; however that doesn’t stop them from having a sense of humor. On top of all of their dedication, they took the initiative to create their own banner. Due to their extremely, impressive ability and extra effort applied, they receive a perfect score.
