Iambik is a refreshingly unique band from Houston, Texas. Their music is unlike anything I have ever heard considering it is a combination of genres including: alternative, rock, and hip-hop. Ramsey (vocals and bass), Chris (guitar), and Pat (drums) started their band in 2001; however, it didn’t really progress until 2006 when they found a steady lineup. With such a consistent, unique sound, it’s no wonder why their music appeals to a large audience.
They are so original that they don’t have any musical influences. Iambik would rather consider food, drugs, school courses, and the ultimate search for the meaning of love, to be their primary inspirations for music and life. The name “Iambic” is derived from the literary concept, the iambic pentameter. It is intended to portray “the steady progression of the nod-factor that the audience displays during the shows.”
Iambik also did a great job in representing themselves to the public. It was both their detailed band biography and their main image that projected a fun loving attitude. The band members also don’t seem to take themselves too seriously with their “short bus alumni” design. Nevertheless, they do have a certain amount of professionalism by taking their performing more seriously, and preparing for a show with an extensive work out of jumping jacks. It was also a smart idea to utilize a banner in order to entice viewers to visit their website. I would recommend for them to perhaps add more pictures of the band members (performances, album covers, posters etc.). They obviously have a large following, and experience by winning third prize in the Out of the Garage Series. I’m sure their music talent will continue to expand, and many more opportunities will come their way.
