My band has made it when...

Internet Killed The Radio Star

So yesterday my friend asks me if I heard some new single thats getting played all over the radio these days? To which I reply "I don't listen to the radio."
The only time I hear the radio is for the minute it takes me to hear my radio alarm has gone off and roll over to hit the snooze button.

I used to listen to the radio all the time, but that was when I lived in the suburbs and had to drive everywhere. Now I live downtown and I either take public transit or walk everywhere, both of which I do with my ipod on.  The problem with only having an ipod though is that it only has the music on it that I already put on. There's no way to find new music along my travels like I did when I had a car with a radio.

So here's my question to everyone; How do you discover new music (besides on Supernova.com of course)?
With the internet there's tons of websites out there that are dedicated to helping people find new music, there's podcasts that only focus on new music, there's blogs, and I'm sure there's other things I don't even know about.

For anyone who knows me, you'll know that one of my biggest passions is life is find new music or bands, and then share them with other people. Even if that sometimes means me playing something for someone over and over again until they're forced to like. I want to know some more places to find new music though, and I want you to tell me where to find it.

I'll even get started with 2 of my favorite sites to use to find new music (besides Supernova.com of course)

First is last.fm. This site is awesome because you can enter an artist or song that you really like and it will put together a playlist of other artists or songs that are similar to the one you entered that you might like.

The second one is Hype Machine which collects music uploaded to all kinds of different blogs around the world and puts them all on one page for  your listening enjoyment.

Tell me some of the places you find new music on........

Forkcast on Pitchforkmedia.com is sometimes good and Cloudspeakers.com is good too. I also like to read the paper's reviews (exclaim, now, eye) online and if a review intrigues me try to find them on the www. If your birthday is coming up you can also get all your friends to make you a mixx instead of buying you a present, always yields interesting results.

The radio no longer influences who I listen to. I may turn it on every now and again, but only because I need some background noise! The site I use to buy my CDs (yes I still buy CDs) has the feature "People who bought this item also bought..." I use this to check out new music.

I totally feel you, dude... about the radio thing. No car = no radio = Sarah and her MP3 player. I find my music on Napster... however, I do rely on The Edge to let me know about new bands when I get really super bored. I also find new music by going to see bands I like... the opening bands are usually pretty great. That's about it.
