Vintage Wasteland are today's feature article! They won the Wildcard vote for June 15th in Oshawa so they get to be the center of attention on the Feed.
Introduce your members and how each person fits into the band!
On lead vocals is Rob Murray. He’s our newest addition to the band and fits in to the band by being a comical relief when things get a little intense. On lead guitar is Tyler Sutherland.  He’s our go-to-guy who’s always down for playing a tune or writing a song no matter what. On drums is Jordan Bold. He’s the thick-headed one in the band that just won’t say no. Once, he played 3 shows in a row with a fractured wrist. On bass is Chris Beaudoin. He’s the peace keeper of the band that keeps everyone level-headed and on track. Each one of us fits together to make the perfect dysfunctional family that we are.

Can you give me a general history of the band? A general rundown?
The band started out about 2 years ago with no vocals and 2 bassists. We started out playing almost all Trivium covers and a few sketchy originals. We played our first show last year at the Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival and the general consensus for people was that we were pretty good but needed a singer. Soon after that show we lost our 2nd bassist. We knew then that if we were going to get serious about this we needed to find a vocalist and fast. Unfortunately, finding someone out in the country that would scream for us wasn’t particularly easy. It was another year and another show or two before we found Rob Murray to scream for us. Since then we’ve played three shows with him, organizing one of them for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) called “Scream for a Cure” where we raised over 3000$ for CBCF and other local charities. Before our show at the dungeon our rhythm guitarist, Robert Beaudoin, told us that it was going to be his last show because he wanted to do a solo project. We wish him the best of luck and are now working with a new guitarist who should hopefully fill the empty spot and get us up and playing more shows soon.

What's been the most rewarding experience about being in the band?
The most rewarding experience about being in the band would have to be when you’re up on stage and you look out on the crowd and everyone is moshing and moving to the music that you’re creating. There’s no better sensation than just being up on stage.

Was there a moment, a show, a piece of good news, or anything, when
you realized that the band was something that you wanted to pursue full time?
It was probably the “Scream for a Cure” show. We spent months organizing that show, hoping for the best but thinking that the majority of people in the area listen to country, not metal and therefore our efforts would be pointless. As we set up on the day of the show we were getting worried when no bands were there half an hour before the doors opened. It started to pour and we were like, “Dam its over, there’s no way people will come now.” We went down to the front door to take a breather and to our surprise there was already over 100 hundred people huddled underneath the balcony waiting for the doors to open. At that moment we knew that if we could draw that many people to come in our area to a metal show that we could do anything and that this band was something real.

Favourite place to play?
Our favourite place to play would probably be the Dungeon. It may not be the nicest venue but it’s cool to think that when you play there you’re standing on the same stage that great bands like Protest the Hero started out on not to mention played there the night before. The Dungeon is a piece of musical history in Oshawa and it’s cool to think that we are a part of that.

Who would you love to tour with?
If we could choose any band to tour with it would probably be Protest the Hero. They put on a hell of a show and we all look up to them as idols in the music industry. Realistically though, we would love to tour with our friends in Absence of Fear. We’ve been good friends with them pretty much the entire time we’ve been a band and it would be awesome to tour with them one of these days.

What are some bands you guys are currently listening to? Any new bands you can introduce us to?
We try not to listen to just metal to diversify the musical influences that we bring into our own music but we do listen to a lot of it. Some of the bands we listen to are Protest the Hero, The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me the Horizon, As I Lay Dying, IllScarlett, Bleeding Through and The Black Dahlia Murder. Some up and coming bands that anyone reading this should check out are A Flame In December, Right Before the Rise, Tokyo Meth Lab and definitely take a listen to Absence of Fear.

If you had to choose one album that you had to listen to on repeat for the rest of your life, which album would you pick?
It would probably have to be Kezia by Protest the Hero. The music on this album is so intricately put together that you could listen to it for years and still hear something new each time you listened. Each one of them all bring a different style of musicianship that makes them something timeless.
