My band has made it when...

Alloyed

Alloyed is a trifecta of kick ass Quebec talent; driven by a balance of raw talent and pure ambition, these boys have created their unique version of the perfect ‘rock alloy’. With a heavy classic rock influence and a tight, progressive sound, Alloyed have quickly become one of my favourite bands on my personal Music playlist.

She Don't Know Now - Alloyed

"Basically we have a sound powerful enough to convert goat urine into gasoline."

Fresh off a killer performance at the Shure Band on the Run city finals this past weekend, Alloyed sat down to answer a few questions about their epic rock sound and amazing dedication to their music.

First, can you introduce your band members – how does each individual fit into the band?

Alloyed is a power trio: Dan is the lead singer/guitarist, Louis is the drummer, and Fred the bass player.

Alloyed is a source of all member influences and skills. It is not just about notes put together; it is the chemistry between each of the members that makes it real. Dan mostly writes the lyrics, sometimes with the help of Louis. Fred pitches in words here and there, but mostly writes music. We all write music; that's for sure. It's clicked so well that it is easy for us to write songs. If someone is running out of ideas, someone, somehow - even a drummer - will grab the guitar and come up with a riff to jam to.

What's the band’s history?

Dan and Louis are cousins; they’ve played music together for a long time and learned together. In 2001, a young man named Fred appeared at a party thanks to a common friend (Guillaume Proulx). Since that night, we've started to jam 2-3 times a week.

In 2004, we recorded a 13-song demo with Guillaume Proulx. It was the grand opening for his new studio, Life is Good Sound Studio. We never had money to make copies, but it's ok; it allowed us to work on our sound and ideas, and to finally create Alloyed as it is today.

After years of doing shows around the capital (Ottawa) and Quebec regions, we are back in studio. Still no money… But now looking for some help to make it. We participated in a few contests but never found a good one until we came across the Supernova.com web site.

What make us stand as a band today? Well, first of all we all have been born to do what we do. From the very first show we’ve done and all shows since, gauging by comments and crowd response, we knew that we had finally found the perfect alloy to create new, rocking, kick ass, quality and entertaining music.

How would you describe your band’s sound?

How does it sound to you? We would say Metal/Rock
and people seeing us live would say that at some point it sounds like blues, jazz, rock, hard rock, progressive, metal, speed metal, punk, etc… you name it.

Basically we have a sound powerful enough to convert goat urine into gasoline. The best answer for us to describe our sound is…it sounds like Alloyed!

What is the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

You get to experience of music as an insider and an outsider. You get both perspectives... And Cheers!

Was there any particular moment that made you want to pursue music full time?

From the first show and every show we do, it makes us want to do it over and over again. Every time we go on stage, the feedback we get from the crowd is just amazing! Since the first show we played, we've never had bad comments… ever!

Oh, yes! We almost forgot… "Guys it’s too LOUD!!" - so that time we cranked up the amps and played Immigrant song from Led Zeppelin! Ahhhhh memories!!

Hehe... how do you want people to perceive your band?

As a original group with kick ass songs... As a must see! No matter what!

Where's your favorite place to play?

On stage! Where else?

You'd be surprised... Who would you most like to tour with?

Rush, Metallica, Ozzy, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, AC/DC, Sir Paul McCartney, BLS, Dream Theater, Mötley Crüe, Thin Lizzy, Tool, Iron Maiden...

If you had to listen to one album on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fred: Rush - 2112

Louis: Led Zep - One!

Dan: Thick as a Brick (If you heard it all you know why) (I agree, watch/listen here!)

Great choices!! So what brought you to Supernova.com?

Internet brought us to Supernova, web site looked nice and what you’ve achieved too! Finally, an organization understanding and believing in local bands. They are ready to help and not just asking for money, actually they're not asking for money at all…

Register, they have an awesome team that is their for you and to answer your questions and even more!!

Anything else that new listeners should know?

We like to write songs that don’t all sound the same like many artists out there who fear change and new direction.

We shall never bore our fans. Alloyed is unique in its identity! See it and hear it for yourself; not to be missed, a must see!
