Last Friday at the height of the North by North East music conference, Supernova.com hosted an intimate Homecoming Showcase. Featuring top Supernova.com talent, the night opened with an intense offering of indie acts, opening for must-see emerging artists playing through until 3am... And it was flippin' awesome!!!
All the way from Oslo, Norway, NXNE powerhouse punk band Pirate Love shared some serious lessons in fashion from overseas - namely, that you don’t need pants to kick ass. Supernova.com also welcomed Fox Vancouver Seeds champions Incura, as well as current Seeds ’09 finalists Goodbye Beatdown. These amazing bands have the distinction of being given the nod by Canada’s #1 Indie talent competition, who this year partnered with Supernova.com to create the Vancouver Seeds online community. Finally, Supernova.com’s own The Scenario took to the stage, giving it their all for both the crowd and the cameras.
The cameras belonged to local director Julia Visentin, and photographer Corinne Clapham who were both shooting the concert for an upcoming feature on the new music scene. The bands completely tore up the stage, while screaming fans took to the dancefloor to compete for camera attention. What an awesome event! Although the footage is still in post production, I managed to sneak some amateur footage for everyone to check out below:
In addition to our headliners, we also had some phenomenal Battle of the Bands® talents out. Chasing Eve was definitely the crowd favourite, arriving with a giant group of die hard fans. Supernova.com staff favourite was BY FAR Sonic Shock - totally amazing good-times glam rock. Afterward, we begged the photographer to share some of her choice shots of the night - and threw them into a slide show to show everyone (hehe) - check it out!
Oh, and if YOU have any photos of your own to share, add them to our Flickr group so we can make you a famous band photographer!
What a kick ass event; thanks to every band, fan, industry VIP and others who came out! Over the next week we’ll show you some of the one-on-one interviews with these Showcase bands like the Goodbye Beatdown interview, including Pirate Love, Incura, and fellow NXNE band Kill the Lights.
We'll also be leaking footage from the upcoming feature on Supernova.com and the new music scene - stay tuned!
