POLLS

My band has made it when...

Throttle

Throttle first stepped onto the Supernova.com stage in our National High School Battle of the Bands. Despite being new to the scene, Throttle’s melodic guitar work and hypnotic rhythms were soon turning heads, and the band took top spot in the series winning $1,000 in AXE music gear.

Without hesitation, these 5 young artists put their prizes into practice, launching into Supernova's Summer Warfare series with an appetite for the win. After a long fought summer of band to band stage combat, Throttle has again emerged victorious; taking the online vote and a complete backline kit from Mapex and Line 6 worth over $4,000!

Armed and ready to meet the music scene head on, I caught up with the boys from Throttle on their way to becoming one of Supernova.com’s most infamous acts of 2009. They were all too happy to share their secrets to success and passion for playing the Supernova.com stage.

So what do each of you contribute?

Paul has been in the band since the start with the heavy bass lines and up until only a few weeks ago, he had a MASSIVE blonde afro.. therefore his nickname would be white chocolate.

Danny joined the band on drums after long-time friend Joey quit for reasons unknown. But that didn't matter; Danny fit in quickly, adding his own signature feel to the songs. We call him Darnele or alien Twiggy.

Josh is the quiet one of the group; but he LOVES to party! Don't be fooled by his shy ways, because he is a KILLER guitar player and quite the ladies man. We just call him Josh.

Last is Ben, the leader of this gong show band. He is the lead guitar player and lead singer of the band. With his unique voice and guitar-style, Ben draws in the crowd every night. We call him Vano.

Cool - How would you describe your band’s sound?

Our band's sound is a good solid blues/ rock n' roll kind of vibe. We like to stay away form the modern day music because, well, why blend in to the typical boring bands that sound like everyone else? We are trying to bring back music from the old days, but with our own touch to it.

What has been the most rewarding thing about being in a band?

The most rewarding thing is getting recognition for doing something we love, and seeing our fans out there at every show for support. When you see people singing along, there is no better feeling in the world. We love that we can express ourselves through the music we create, and the fact that people are listening.

Was there any particular moment or event that made you realize you wanted to be in a band?

I think the moment we realized that music is what we wanted to pursue, was after our first show. We had such a surprising reaction from the people that saw us, and we all kind of looked at each other and said: This is it boys. People were diggin' the sound and we LOVED the attention, haha.

Where is your favourite place to play or practice?

Our favourite place to play would probably be The Nest and NAIT. Every time we have a show there the place is always packed and the environment is so welcoming.

Does Throttle have any special equipment?

We do, but we just always forget to bring it! Haha... But next show and from now, on a giant Edmonton Oilers flag will be hanging from Josh's amp.

Who would you guys most like to tour with?

We would be honored to tour with any band that wanted to. But over all probably Kings of Leon, Sam Roberts, or even the White stripes.

What was your first Supernova.com Battle of the Bands experience like?

The experience was crazy; the show went really well and all the bands that showed up were really impressive to watch. it was a fun night of music.

How did you find Supernova.com?

We were actually pointed to Supernova through our school. We always had a lot of support from the school and everyone in it.

I would tell other artists that this is a GREAT organization to belong to because it gets your name out there, and your fan base will grow so much more on Supernova.com than just by sitting in your basement.

Is there anything else that new Throttle fans or listeners should know?

Yes, Ben and Josh are brothers and have been creating music for years together. Also, if you love Hard rock and just new music in general, then check us out!

Congratulations to the boys in Throttle again for winning both the National High School Battle of the Bands PLUS the Summer Warfare online vote - very impressive numbers and even more impressive talent!

I look forward to hearing more from this young band as they take the brand new backline they won here at Supernova.com and hit the Edmonton music scene; keep your eye on these guys and watch their popularity explode!
