MP3 ROUNDUP: Sleigh Bells (covering Beyoncé), Woods, Sufjan Stevens with Rosie Thomas, Lykke Li with Deportees, and AU MP3 ROUNDUP: Sleigh Bells (covering Beyoncé), Woods, Sufjan Stevens with Rosie Thomas, Lykke Li with Deportees, and AU
Sleigh Bells – “Irreplaceable” (Beyoncé cover) Not sure whether this cover proves how amazing Beyoncé’s voice is, or how ordinary Alexis Krauss’ voice is. That is, it kind of sucks. Sleigh Bells have an excellent grasp of forceful instrumentation with sweet vocals, but just can’t pull off sweet instrumentation with powerful vocals. Nevertheless, the salute to Bee is appreciated.   Woods – “Wind Was The Wine” Stream over at Pitchfork Woods gives us another taste of their forthcoming split EP with Amps for Christ. Both artists collaborated on “From Oatmeal to Buttermilk,” but Woods sets the peyote aside for this one....

WATCH: Final chapter of The Roots’ undun music video series, "Sleep" WATCH: Final chapter of The Roots’ undun music video series, "Sleep"
Another Tuesday, another music video from The Roots. The last episode of the four-part series offers little in closure, but lots in expectations for the upcoming album. The Roots have crafted a pretty strong story surrounding their concept, and after four weekly teases as to what it’s about, they've raised more questions than answers.Coming full circle from the start of the series with "Make My", the murder of Redford Stephens gets a closer look, with a definite perspective of the masked assassin himself. Devoid of a face throughout this series, we have to guess that hanging out alone in subway cars and on church steps place him somewhere...

DigiTech iPB-10
With its ultra-smooth touchscreen operation, Apple's iPad makes a pretty good control surface. It enables you to drag onscreen icons around more quickly and easily than you can with the mouse-driven computer-based editing software available for certain hardware multi-FX units. And it's certainly faster than manipulating old-school physical controls. This seems to have occurred to some bright spark in DigiTech's R&D department, as the company has introduced the iPB-10, a hardware multi-FX pedal that's not only controlled by an iPad, but also has a dock to hold it firmly in place as an integral part of the system for onstage, home or studio...

Russell Simmons Defends Jay-Z's Occupy Wall Street T-Shirts
Jay-Z 's controversial "Occupy All Streets" t-shirts that don't benefit the Occupy Wall Street movement do have one high-profile fan: Russell Simmons. In a recent interview with Billboard, Simmons said, "What's wrong with selling goodness? There's nothing wrong with it. It's not the most preferred. In yogi scripture, at least, the highest form of giving is giving without expectation. Selfless. But a lot of people need incentive."

WATCH: The Black Keys talk 'selling out' with Jian Ghomeshi WATCH: The Black Keys talk 'selling out' with Jian Ghomeshi
Yesterday, acclaimed garage-rock duo The Black Keys swung by the Q studio to speak with Jian Ghomeshi. Here's a particularly interesting short excerpt from that conversation in which the two Ohioans discuss their choices in licensing music for TV, film, and commercials, and the idea of 'selling out.'"Just depends on how many zeroes are in the cheque, that's pretty much it," Aurbach jokes. But joking aside, this discussion is relevant now more than ever; with record sales in the toilet (though not for the Black Keys), licensing has become paramount to an artist's survival. The tension between art and commerce is something that has famously...

Garbage finishing new album for 2012 release
It's been six long years since we heard from Garbage, the band comprised of Butch Vig, Shirley Manson, Steve Marker and Duke Erikson. But the '90s alt-rock giants, who were only happy when it rained, are now back together and finishing a new album which they are eyeing for a 2012 release."Years-worth of pent-up music came out in some bizarre ways. Bleary cell phone memos became real songs, conversations turned into lyrics, and new computer gizmos inspired wicked tangents," the band said, apparently in unison, in a slightly bizarre press release announcing their return. "Ghosts came in, had their say. Everyone brought ideas, and everyone...
