Here the World is a Canadian Pop band formed in 2009 by brothers Johnny Holmes and Scythe Hanzo.
Musically Here the World combines the power and edginess of punk rock with the upbeat inspirational sound found in pop. Their raw and passionate lyrics tell the story of life, death, love, and heartache. Here the World's music has been described as deeply rich, spiritually infused pop.
During live performances Johnny and Scythe are known for their charged, uplifting speeches, and humorous storytelling. Called the inspirational pop-punk duo, their charisma and natural ability to lead electrifies audiences.
Originally from Winnipeg, in 2012 the brothers moved to Victoria to further the band’s international reach.
Here the World’s debut album “Ripple Effect” was released on February 9, 2010. It was well received in their hometown and helped create the band’s initial fan base.
During their two years in Winnipeg, Here the World was featured in several local newspapers (most notably: The Winnipeg Sun, and The Uniter), and played sold out shows at some of the city’s hottest venues (most notably: The Park Theatre, The West End Cultural Centre, and The Gas Station Theatre). Their second single “Like Snow” received regular airplay on 92.9 Kick FM.
As the band’s notoriety grew, Johnny and Scythe became an important part of the Winnipeg music scene, outsourcing themselves to numerous projects. Their most celebrated outside contributions are: Johnny’s performance on Much Music’s Discovered with Brett Boivin, and Johnny and Scythe performing with the Filipino band “haLf man haLf eLf” during an all day world music event at The Forks.
After moving to Victoria. Here the World took a short hiatus to dedicate themselves to other ventures. In November 2013 Johnny and Scythe returned to the studio. Their highly anticipated EP “Familiar Night” was released on March 22, 2014.
The first single from the EP “Epic U” (featured on ScythePlays.com) has become an immediate fan favourite and is currently being heard around the world.
Here the World is taking the next step to international radio play and touring.
