Keep The Change

Born out of boredom Cottage Shed Band now Keep the Change Jacob Dunning Matt Burt Nick Burt Zack Mcvannell Emily Dunning (special vocal guest) In the summer of 2010 4 Cottage kids ages 13-16 escaped boredom by banging on some instruments in the Burts shed in Bayfield. They came from Burlington and Kitchener and had grown up together one to two weeks a year on Ontario's West Coast. This particular summer was a two week stint at the end of which they had nailed down 7 or 8 cover tunes that they played for the beach community.They were known as the Cottage Shed Band. Summer ended and it was agreed they could get together maybe once a month to jam and hang. Jacob (13) was inspired and on his return to Burlington began writing songs and kept the pace of about a tune a month. In March of 2011 they were invited by Jacob and Emily's cousins (Full Tipped Sleeve) to join Supernova and come to a gig in Toronto at the Rockpile. So with less than 60hrs of playing and practice under their belt they said Why not. Realizing that "The Cottage Shed Band" wouldn't cut it as a name for a band on the rise they began to throw around some options...I could tell you how they came up with "Keep the Change" as it is a very interesting and somewhat funny story but apparently there are a couple of versions floating around out there and they like it that way. March break back in Bayfield gave them opportunity to put together a set list and be as prepared as they could for their first ever gig April 8th 2011 at the Rockpile in Toronto, and what a gig it was. As the months rolled on Jacob crafted more tunes and the band went back to a monthly Jam sessions (little thing called school got in the way). They did however find time to squeeze in two more June SuperNova shows one in London and the other in Burlington. From the Supernova shows the accumulated 12 hrs recording time at a sponsor studio. Two days after Jacobs 14th birthday they recorded three tracks that will be out this Fall. A couple more Supernova shows including a First Place Finish in Welland made for a 5 month whirlwind experience for the Teens. September brings a new start of the school year and a Back to School Back Yard Bash in Kitchener gave the band an opportunity to play for the Kitchener fans and introduce the changes that are happening as the band moves forward. Where are they now? 1. Emily Dunning deciding to focus on school is taking a hiatus from the scene but has said she would help out on some studio work if needed 2. Jacob Dunning has just completed his first week of High school, made the volleyball team and is looking forward to becoming a Star 3. Matt Burt is working on the worlds next best solo. 4. Nick Burt has completed another marathon and is glad to have Zack aboard! 5. Zach Mcvannell...Keep the Changes newest member Bass/Guitar and vocals has his first KTC Gig under his belt and is looking forward to more! . .
