The formation of Lung Flower can be traced back to 2008 when rhythm guitar player and songwriter Marcus Salem was first introduced to bass player Zak Garret. An impromptu jam led to a deep musical connection rooted in their love for heavy metal, grunge, and all things rock and roll. Unfortunately the timing was off, as Salem relocated to Nelson, B.C. shortly thereafter in hopes of reigniting his musical passion and creativity. After a six-month span rife with equal levels of debauchery and creativity, Salem returned to Vancouver with an immense drive to set the local scene aflame. Salem posted an ad looking for talented and like-minded musicians, and as fate would have it the first bass player to respond was Zak Garrett. Soon after, they recruited recent Australian immigrant and ex-Kyuss cover band drummer Kris Vetz to round out the rhythm section. The search for a vocalist began rather quickly, and Zak immediately thought of long time friend Jamie Gordon, whose raspy baritone was the perfect addition to the heavy grunge that the rhythm section had been creating. To round out the lineup they added slick lead guitar slinger Graham McGee who was playing in a local eighties heavy metal throwback group named Stryker. The band started playing local shows at Vancouver venues such as Pub 340, The Bourbon, The Roxy, Funky Winkerbeans and The Media Club, always leaving the audience wanting more of their unique hybrid of heavy metal, doom, and grunge. They wound up at Vancouvers Blue Wave Studios to record their first full-length album, Under a Dying Sun, though these sessions resulted in immense drama and inner turmoil for the band. Upon completion of the album, drummer Kris Vetz departed Lung Flower in order to pursue other endeavors, and was replaced by Tsawwassen resident Dan Kudzin; a young and dynamic heavy hitter who immediately meshed with the style of the group. With a firmly cemented line-up in place and a hard hitting debut album ready to release, Lung Flower is establishing themselves as a must see live act capable of bringing entire venues to their feet through their heavy, loud, yet accessible brand of new age grunge.
