The band started after the band "THiNK" broke up. Former Guitar player from THiNK "Gabe Penner" and former Bass player from THiNK "Daniel Gray" decided it would be fun to get together and jam on a regular basis. At the time there was no intent for a band to emerge.
One Evening bass player Josh Penner "JJP" from "Poppy and the Pistols" who had been learning to play Guitar began jamming with Daniel and Gabe. From then on Josh continued to join the jam sessions.
On September 4th, 2010, Josh and Gabe had the honour of jamming with White Rock native Kirby Morgan and listen to her solo accoustic music. Josh and Gabe asked if she would be interested in sitting in + listen and sing to the jam sessions. Kirby's Vocals sounded amazing and the following day we all got together for another jam session. It was after that jam session that the decsion was made to form a band. "The Thrifts" was chosen because we had all come from different bands.
