Tom Skoal is made up of members Jake Antonio (drums), Kyle Finbow (guitar/vocals) and Julian Finbow (bass/vocals). Jake Antonio has been playing drums for 11 years now since the age of 10, and was enticed to start playing when his father told him that he used to drum. A year before joining Tom Skoal Jake played in another Niagara band "Cousin", but left after a short term due to creative differences.
Kyle Finbow started playing guitar and singing in 2006 when he was influenced by Blink-182's simple yet catchy music. In 2007, Kyle wanted to play Blink covers at his high school battle of the bands, and recruited fellow class mates Jake Antonio to play drums, and his brother Julian (not a musician at the time) to play bass. The Finbow's knew Jake from being teamates on a peewee football team during grade school.
Once Julian Finbow was more-or-less forced into joining his older brother's band, he was taught the bass parts to the songs they would perform, on an acoustic guitar. This was because niether Kyle or Julian owned a bass, but this was quickly remedied by trading their father's 88 Crown Victoria, for Julian's first bass guitar. He then learned the backing vocals to their chosen songs, the band practiced together a few times, and they were ready for their first show.
Tom Skoal did not win the competition, however they continued to play more shows, learn a countless number of Blink-182 covers, and eventually start to writing their own songs. Now they can be described as a pop/rock band whose sound is formed by poppy yet dynamic bass and guitar melodies, delicate vocal harmonies, and driving drum beats. These aspects come together, to give Tom Skoal a unique, yet listenable sound. The band puts on a tight, high enery live show, and is something to be enjoyed by various walks of life.
