In the summer of 2008, Mike was looking for people to jam with. He called Alex, an old neighbor and high school chum, and asked him if he still played with anyone. He mentioned Derek and Kyle. So around the middle of August, they all got together and tried jamming in Alex's laundry room. It was hot and shitty, but the music went well, so they moved upstairs, which was also hot, but less shitty. Due to the relocation, the music improved, and Wild Life was born.
Influences in the band range from Led Zeppelin, Pixies, Wintersleep and Radiohead, but in general there is an overall appreciation of the mid 90's at play in the band.
The band has played gigs all over the lower mainland, from house parties in Aldergrove and Langley, to pub shows in the Vancouver downtown core. The band has shared the stage with other bands at the Bourbon, the Railway club, and the Biltmore in the recent months.
Recently the band worked in collaboration with the local comedy group ?Sketch? to produce a ?Music video advertisement?, for submittal to Big Rock Brewing co for ?Eddies competition?. They performed a re-working of ?Baby got back? called ?baby got big rock?, and the ad was picked up as a finalist in the top 18 of Canada (largely due to Kyle's wonderful display of beer poured all over himself in the video). The winner is being selected in June.
Wild Life is recording currently with Rob Begg in Walnut Grove, and hard at work writing new material. They feel their sound is diverse and unique enough to make an impact on the Vancouver music scene.
